EREWASH VALLEY 2024 - AM-AM and YEAR SUMMARY

2024 Season.

Pre - Season

Whilst the availability had been very good for the annual warm up matches for the squad unfortunately the weather was not so amenable with the matches against Matlock and Mickleover both being cancelled due to course closures thanks to the rain.

The match against Warwickshire didn’t take place for a second year due to Warwickshire being unable to field a team. This fixture may need to be revisited and replaced with a warmup match against an alternative county.

The match against the Derbyshire Girls which was due to take place at Burton was looking like it too was going to be cancelled due to a waterlogged course but fortunately Chevin very kindly offered use of their facilities at the last minute, so a friendly competition was able to go ahead.

This was followed by another fantastic weekend at Woodall Spa where resident Professional, Adam Keogh put members of the squad through their paces.

This was followed by the annual warmup match against Cheshire and for once the sun shone. Not only that but Derbyshire secured a rare victory at Stockport Golf club.

The final warmup for the squad was the Squad v Seniors match at Shirland Golf course and I’m very pleased to say that the squad retain the trophy with a great victory.

County Week.

The highlight of any Captains year has to be County Week and whilst we didn’t get the results we hoped for, I was incredibly proud of the squad, their teamwork and dedication to the task in hand despite close matches just not quite going our way. Their performance should make all those associated with Derbyshire golf extremely proud.

The 1st Team squad was a very strong one made up of Ladies and Juniors which continues to go from strength to strength thanks to all of the dedication that the players show through the year.

Recognition should also go the Burton on Trent Golf Club who hosted the event. All those involved did an amazing job. In particular all those involved in organising the week and making all the counties feel so welcome.

County 2nd Team

The second half of the season is dedicated to the 2nd team matches where yet again the team gave it their all but unfortunately this year it wasn’t quite enough to make it to the MNR Final.

Having spectated at all of the matches I was witness to some fantastic golf and team spirit lead commendably by my Vice Captain Melanie.

County Captains AM-AM

The last event of the year for me was my AM-AM hosted at Erewash Golf Club.

Sadly, my end of season was subject to the same weather as the start of my season however I am very pleased to say that the day did go ahead and very grateful to those teams that did brave the weather.

A huge amount of thanks must go the Ladies of Erewash who helped with the organising of the day, in addition to members of the club who volunteered their time, Simon P-J (Professional) and the Bar and catering staff who helped the day go ahead.

Despite all of the problems that the rain caused I am chuffed to say that we still managed to raise £1000 for my charity – Alzheimer’s Society.

Summary

Throughout all of this year I have had fantastic support from all of the Derbyshire Ladies both squad members and club players. I have also had some great support from DCG Committee members and the DCG Secretary. To all of you I say, “Thank you”. Last but not least I would like to thank my Vice Captain Melanie Davey. She has supported me throughout the year and as I hand the baton over, I know the Derbyshire Ladies County Golf is in safe hands.

At the start of my year, I not only wanted to build on the work of my predecessor Debbie Eaglefield in the building a truly inclusive team, but I also wanted to raise the profile not only of Ladies Derbyshire County golf but also of the work that Derbyshire County Golf do as whole though social media. To that end through the use of DCG Facebook and the posting of reports, photos and videos the membership of this site has increased exponentially.

Through this site we have highlighted some amazing achievements by our County Juniors and players, and I hope we can continue to give our players the recognition they deserve.

My year has certainly been an experience that I will not forget, and I have been proud to be the Ladies Derbyshire County Captain.
